Disgusted by closure
Disgusted by closure
In November 1988, the first Vietnam Veterans Memorial in the state was built and dedicated in memory of the 51 fallen heroes of Hawaii County.
The money and labor for this memorial was donated by the great citizens of Hawaii Island, and no funds from the government, state or federal, were used.
On the Fourth of July, Independence Day, I went down to pay my respect to these heroes, and as I turned onto the street to go to the memorial, I was surprised to see at least 12 other vehicles trying to get in.
The street was blocked by the county because they did not want people to go in to celebrate and dirty the yard.
Isn’t this what the Fourth of July should be? We celebrate these heroes for their sacrifice, and the county closes the park.
This is disgusting and shows no aloha.
Come on, Mayor Harry Kim and staff. Show some respect and aloha.

‘A raw deal’
Can someone from the county explain its policy on the mulch program?
I ordered a load of mulch and was told the trucking businesses no longer are allowed to pick up a full load. This led me to get a third of a load for the same price of a full load.
Also, each company can only get one load a day!
This is a raw deal for trucking companies and homeowners, whose taxes pay for this program!

Park proposal
Kudos to Mayor Harry Kim for his proposal for a park on top of Mauna Kea.
People could enjoy the park, Hawaiians could pray in their sacred area and scientists could explore the universe — all in harmony.
Unfortunately, I doubt the activists will be appeased. “My way or the highway,” of course. Shame.
